Hurricane Ike Visits Houston

Here comes Ike

Well, it is 3:30 pm here in Atascocita and it has begun to rain.

This rain is coming from the outer bands of hurricane Ike as he bears down on Galveston and Houston, Texas.

Ike should hit land near Galveston about 1:00 AM Saturday.

They are expecting a storm surge of 20-25 feet which will more than likely put Galveston under water for about 12 hours.

We don't live in an evacuation area or flood zone, so we are staying put and out of the way of those who must evacuate.

We have taken the necessary steps to prepare for problems that might occur. We have food, water, batteries and gasoline. We  will probably lose power sometime after midnight so I am getting the house cold now because we will be without air conditioning for sometime.

Winds will be about 85 mph and rain will be between 6 - 10 inches. But, we are out of the storm surge areas. Lots of wind and rain.

It has been estimated that about 1 million people have been evacuated. Wow!

Friday

  • 5:00 PM - 86º F mild winds
  • 8:00 PM - 84º F wind 40 mph - Tornado warning
  • 10:00 PM - wind and rain have greatly increased

Saturday

  • 12:35 PM - power went out
  • 1:35 PM - hurricane has arrived rain and wind heavy

We have no power and it is warm and sticky today. We have some ice, plenty of water and sufficient food. We will use flashlights and candles for light, but we due have gas for cooking.

Sunday

Still no power but the weather is beginning to lessen as a cool front brings rain and dry air into the area. We are playing Scrabble to pass the time away.

We have plenty of food and water; Bubba brought home some ice. Yes!

Monday

It's a beautiful day out, hard to believe that just two days ago we were in  a hurricane. Still no power. Reading and Scrabble are the activities for the day.
